"What are some things I should think about when picking location(s) for our Engagement photos?" - Natalie

This is a great question - thanks, Natalie! When prepping for your Engagement photos there are a few things to help lead you in the right direction:

1. Is there a specific location that has meaning to you? Did you meet at Jo's Coffee on S. Congress? Were you both volunteering at ACL when you bumped into each other? These details are part of your story and totally fun to incorporate in your shoot.

2. There is nothing better than natural light for photos, so a lot of photographers and couples alike choose outdoor locations for shooting. That doesn't mean indoor venues are out of the question, just be sure to keep lighting as a priority when doing your research.

3. Do something that matches your style as a couple. If you're always out and about on adventures, think about staging something on the road. If you're more Urban, find a location you can see the city's skyline. There are a perfect locations all around you, you just need to get creative!

Aly and Cece met almost six years ago when Cece was feeling a little squirrely (and a little sauced) and made a fated prank phone call to Aly. What was supposed to be a quick fun little chat turned into a two hour conversation, which became a two week conversation. They decided to meet up and thus began their journey, together. A beginning as friends is how I met my better half too. When these guys tell me they want to see themselves having fun in their wedding photos, I understand completely and I can relate!

Fast forward five years, Aly and Cece have endured a big move and a five year relationship, that's huge. Cece asked Aly's family for her hand in marriage and they said yes, and Aly said yes too at Universal Studios Harry Potter World. #nerds. Their wedding is coming soon, in fact they will be wed on my 10 year wedding anniversary with Steve. What a fitting celebration for us and a tribute to love itself. #loveislove

Randi and Josh wanted to retrace old steps through their first neighborhood and Saturday morning haunts. Breakfast tacos at Con Madre Taco Truck and bike ride through Stacy Park. It was a welcome afternon for these lovebirds as they travers a short time of long distance before their wedding next year.

Brent and Diana met while enjoying a meal alone then together at Whole Foods. 10 days later they went on a 10 day trip together to Costa Rica. I guess you just know when you know. They'll tie the knot in January. In Mexico! They are buying a bar/ residence in a small town in east Texas in a couple months and wanted to get shots of themselves together in the town where the met. That included Jo's Coffee Shop and the green I love you so much wall as well as the Continental Club, Texas state capital and, of course, Amy's Ice Cream! Congratulations you two!

Carolyn and Eric, engagement session in their home city of San Antonio. We went to Pearl Brewery district. I LOVE it there. seriously folks I only want to shoot there from now on. and the couple just purchased a home in the beautiful and historic sSouth Town. So we ran over there before it got to dark to nab a few shots. it was outstanding. Plus I got to take my whole family for a much needed 20 hours in San Antonio. These guys are going to tie the knot in the spring and I am so excited to be there. They are fun and funny. and I am getting the sense that Eric might be a little unruly. We'll see ;)

Jamie and Zach, newly minted Austinites, choose Pease Park and other Austin local hotspots for their Engagement Photography Session.

After Zach broke his hand on a motorcycle, he met Jamie while under going hand therapy in VA. Since they had spent so much time together he just had to ask her out once he was done and she'd restored his hand. While she had laughed him off in the moment, thankfully her girlfriends called him for her and rest is history. It was love at 27th site! Recent DC transplants the couple is really enjoying what Austin has to offer and making their new MARRIED life here together. For their engagement session they wanted to take a little Austin home with them so they chose My Butter Half Wall and the Graffiti Wall at Castle Hill and we ended our session at Pease Park. It was a gorgeous day! Their wedding will take place early summer 2016 in DC, among the beautiful pink flowy cherry blossoms.

Sexy Sam and Evan!

Sam and Evan (my 2 favorite transplants) wanted to shoot something non-traditional, if we even got close to a "pose" she was all over me with "this feels engagementy..." They went all out with their attire and of course hair and make-up by the super talented Erica Gray. Sam tells me at the beginning of our shoot, I have been pouring over fashion magazines all week, I know just what to do! They sure did. Shot right here at the federal building at 5th and San Antonio. They look outstanding and completely at ease in front of the camera. It was so much fun to work with them! Plus - bonus -I love these guys.

Megan and Carl are like a couple of honeymooners already, crazy for each other and just can't keep their hands off ;) I LOVE it! They will be host and hostess at the sweetest intimate wedding just two days after Christmas at Green Pastures. We photographed their engagement session in their little neighborhood in Travis Heights. Megan made sure they were coordinated in dress and it looks good. They have a brand new baby kitten that was all the rage when I arrived, so we nabbed a few frames even though it was not necessarily on the wish list of papa bear. I LOVE when a couple says "I have this idea," and then let's me run with it. Not only let's me run with it, but completely trusts me with every aspect of production. Cheers to you two, we did well! Truth be told I moved into the neighborhood where this Whataburger is 7 years ago, and I was immediately enchanted with those stripes! I have wanted to photograph there forever but could never find the right subject(s) for it. Enter Cassie, she came to me with this Whataburger idea, I told her about this location and she said, "that's the one we were thinking of." Seriously, does it get any better than that?! I don't think so. I'll be photographing their wedding next weekend at Camp Lucy and I just can't wait to see them again, they are sweetest and funniest folks.

Erica Gray (hair and make-up) woke up at the ungodly hour of 3am to make me happy for the light. She is A-Mazing! And look at the work she did!! No man is an island - a great team is what makes it all come together.
